Volunteering

Image of one of our teams of volunteers and WellChild staff at the 2009 London marathonWhere would we be without you?

WellChild relies on kind-hearted members of the public to give us a helping hand at the many events we are involved in as we raise funds to help sick children.

There is a whole range of WellChild occasions from big productions like the London Marathon with hundreds of runners and many supporters around the course to smaller – but no less important - local fundraisers. We need people to help us - from selling programmes and car park marshalling to simply cheering on WellChild runners.

Volunteering can be fun – the WellChild team always makes anyone who offers help feel very welcome. You get to meet new people, and you know you are doing something really worthwhile for children who need your help. If you want to help contact Cheryl Clapham at WellChild on 0845 458 8171 or email volunteer@wellchild.org.uk

Walk for WellChild

Organise a walk with friends and family, walk backwards to work or arrange something at your children's school - just some of the ideas to help you support and promote Walk for WellChild.   We're asking all our volunteers and supporters to help us to make Walk for WellChild a huge success to raise valuable funds for the seriously sick children we help through our care, support and research programme.

If you can help, or want to organise an event, let us know - call Cheryl on 0845 458 8171 or email volunteer@wellchild.org.uk

Here's the view of some of our WellChild volunteers:

WellChild is lucky to have dedicated and hardworking volunteers who help us both with our fundraising events and with the day to day running of the charity.

WellChild volunteer VeronicaVeronica from Cheltenham is a regular WellChild volunteer. She comes into the WellChild HQ in Royal Crescent, Cheltenham for some hours each week and helps with the administration and organisation which makes the charity tick. She said:

“I was between jobs and looking at volunteering for a charity when I found WellChild.

"I was interested in working for a children’s charity because I have always worked with children in the past as a nanny and a maternity nurse and I wanted to do something where I felt I was helping children who needed support.

“I have been looking at a career change and volunteering has really helped me gain new experience.

"At WellChild everybody is lovely and they have been so helpful! It’s my first experience of working in an office and it is turning out to be a very pleasant one.”

Sam from Gloucester has volunteered regularly for WellChild helping out at events including Ozleworth Open Garden and the Newlands Music festival. She has also volunteered for some hours each week at our HQ in Cheltenham. She said:

“I had some time on my hands so I thought how could I become involved in the community more? And this really does that.

"You get real satisfaction knowing the money raised goes to a good cause and the support we get from the public at events is tremendous. Everybody at WellChild has been so welcoming and fantastic! I really feel part of the team.”
