Matthew's story

Picture of Matthew in his room15 year old Matthew from Cheltenham has a degenerative disease similar to muscular dystrophy.

 

He needs total care and is dependant on others for all his needs.

 

Matthew will need to spend an increasing amount of time in his bedroom which until the Autumn was dark and uninviting and not a place where he liked to be.

A Helping Hands team from Barclays Bank took inspiration from Matthew’s love of Elvis and turned his room into a mini Graceland making it a colourful and fun place to be.

Matthew said: “It’s great.  As I go to my room, it looks like I’m going towards Elvis’ house and it says ‘Welcome to Graceland’ on the door. 

I’ve always wanted to go to Graceland but I can’t so this is nearly as good.  It’s the first thing I see in the morning and the last thing I see at night.  I love it.”
